Ridge Junior team off to a 7-1 start
Extras
The Ridge boys tennis team has made an excellent showing in the GMC for the season, winning seven matches and only dropping one match to Mason.
Seventh-grader Nick Lang is 5-2 for the season at first singles.
Eighth-grader Ryan Samarakoon is undefeated at second singles.
Seventh-grader Logan Henize is 6-1 at third singles.
The eighth-grade doubles team duo of Grant Jones and Ryan Cornelia is undefeated at first doubles.
Eighth-graders Kunaal Sachdeva and Robert Haberer are having an impressive season and stand at 4-3 at second doubles.
Hopewell Jr. boys record goes to 6-6
The Hopewell Junior boys tennis team lost to a good Princeton team 1-4, evening the team's record to 6-6.
In singles, Drew Souders won 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-6 in a super-tie-breaker).
In exhibition singles, Mitchell Clark won 8-2. Scott Koenig and Shawn Kumar won in exhibition doubles 8-1.
LSO Youth baseball
Destroyers defeat Redsox, tie Hurley
On April 26, the LSO Destroyers narrowly defeated the LSO Redsox by a score of 9-8.
Ty Harrington drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the Destroyers an Opening Day victory.
Pitching for the Destroyers were David Martinsen and Alex Hundemer.
On April 30, the LSO Destroyers played LSO Hurley, and the game finished in a tie, 6-6.
The game witnessed outstanding pitching performances by both teams. The Destroyers pitchers included Cory Risola, Adam Schutte and Spencer Day.

Lakota 'A' team defeats Anderson
The Lakota boys youth Lacrosse "A" team pulled off a stunning victory against the very competitive Anderson Bluejays at Hopewell Junior School.
Lakota boys controlled the ball well, working it for the initial two goals. Anderson answered, only to be followed by two more Lakota goals by Nate Novak, Drake Beitel and John Buczek assisted by Collin Rice.
The Bluejays scored one more to make the final score Lakota 4, Anderson 3.
A great team effort was made by middies Alex Jett, Donnie Potts, Robbie Pavlov and James Kelczewski and attackmen Eric Wendt and Hayden Hill.
Good defensive plays by Nick Liston, Nathan Demerle, Billy Hinton and Patrick Tufts assisted the saves by goalie Landon Johnson.

The Hopewell Junior Thunderbirds girls softball team defeated Kings Junior High 14-3. A great effort was made by the entire team, with excellent fielding, hitting, base running and pitching.

West girls golf team hosting golf camp
The Lakota West girls golf team is hosting a four-day golf camp that will be open to boys and girls entering grades four through eight.
During the week of camp, campers will practice golfing techniques, perform drills and compete in skill competitions from 8 to 11:30 a.m. June 10-12 at the Four Bridges Golf Academy. Cost for golf camp is $100 before May 31 and $110 after.

Wrestling camp
East to host annual Thunderhawk Camp
Lakota East High School will be holding its annual Thunderhawk Wrestling Camp from June 16-19.
Session I will be for ages 6 through sixth grade and will run from 9 a.m. to noon daily at a cost of $60.
Session II will be for students entering grades seven through 12 and will run from 1 to 4 p.m. daily at a cost of $85.
There is a family cap of $120. This year's camp will feature many clinicians including World Medalist/NCAA Champion Joe Heskett.

An all-day boys basketball camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 7-10 at Sycamore High School.

Northern Cincinnati Basketball will be hosting summer instructional camps with an emphasis on learning fundamentals and self-improvement drills. Mercy HealthPlex Fairfield's Sea Wolves swim team is looking for swimmers. The 2007 Ohio Swimming Small Division State champion Sea Wolves are set to begin another season of fun and excitement in the pool starting Monday, April 28.
Teams practice at the HealthPlex Anderson and HealthPlex Fairfield, but Fairfield Sea Wolves do not need to be HealthPlex members.

AIA hosts Olympic gold medalist
Athletes in Action will host a softball camp with three-time Olympic gold medalist Leah O'Brien Amico on May 9-10 at the AIA headquarters in Xenia. Amico also will be accompanied by her University of Arizona teammate Teresa Demeter.
The overnight camp will teach middle-school and high school-aged girls various softball skills while emphasizing a spiritual message. Participants will learn about the value of teamwork on and off the field, and how to build spiritual movements through the sport.
The camp will be held at AIA's first-class World Training and Resource Center. The facilities include seven outdoor NCAA regulation-sized fields, a high and low challenge course, four dormitories, a retreat center and a dining hall.

ATP events seek audit runners
Volunteer help is needed for the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters men's and women's tournaments in Mason. Volunteering requires 20 to 30 hours over the course of the men's tournament, July 25 through Aug. 3; and the women's tournament, Aug. 9-17.
Volunteers are needed to be audit runners that will walk and visit a set number of booths at the event and offer money changing services as needed.

Nike Tennis Camp changes location
After seven successful years at Miami University, Nike Tennis Camp will be moving to Ohio University in Athens. The Nike Tennis Camp will run for four weeks during the summer: June 15-20, June 21-26, July 13-18 and July 19-24.
Nike Tennis Camp at Ohio University will offer both overnight and extended day programs for boys and girls ages 9-18 of all ability levels.
The June 15 week also will include a tournament training program focusing on strategy and match-play situations.

to host Junior PGA
The PGA of America has announced that the 33rd Junior PGA Championship will be contested Aug. 13-16 at the PGA Tour's TPC River's Bend in Maineville.
"Our club wants to host the biggest and best," said Chris Wood, a PGA professional and general manager and director of golf at TPC River's Bend. "Anytime a club and its members are able to host an event like this, it is nothing short of great."

The U10 Knights select baseball team is seeking players who are dedicated and willing to learn at a more competitive level. The team will play a 25- to 30-game schedule in the GCSLB (AAU). Players cannot turn 11 years old before April 30, 2008.

USSSA announces U8 baseball league
USSSA is proud to announce the first and only U8 select baseball league in Cincinnati. Although this will be the third year for the league, a player-pitch division has been added. Teams will now be able to choose between coach- or player-pitch.
League games will be played on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday nights at Rumpke Park in Harrison, Ohio. Eligible players may not turn 9 years old before May 1, 2008. There is only a limited number of spots available. This league will fill up fast, so do not wait.

U12 Lakota Chargers announce tryouts
The U12 Lakota Chargers baseball team will be holding tryouts to fill its roster for the upcoming season.

Mason youth summer camps back
Mason High School football coach David Sedmak is hosting summer youth football camps at Mason Middle School.
The first session is 9 a.m. to noon July 7-9 for those entering grades two through six in the 2008-09 school year. Cost is $60 per camper, with discounts for multiple campers from the same family.
The second session is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 21-23 for those entering grades seven through nine in the 2008-09 school year. Cost is $90 per camper, with discounts for multiple campers from the same family.
