OXFORD — A Miami University student who died from a head injury sustained after a fall was in bed with his girlfriend when the accident occurred, according to police.

Oxford police Tuesday, May 20, released results of an investigation into the April accident that occurred at Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house, 111 E. Spring St. The fall led to the death of Aaron Miller, a 20-year-old junior from Bellbrook, on Saturday.

Miller's girlfriend, Hollie Burge, told police that Miller was not feeling well April 27 and decided to go to bed sometime after midnight. She said they had been in bed for 45 minutes when Miller rolled over and fell off the bed that sits 6 feet off the ground, according to the police report.

Miller did not respond and was gasping for air when Burge checked on him, according to the report. When police arrived around 1:27 a.m., Miller was found unconscious on his right side bleeding from his mouth and nose, authorities said.

The case will remain open until police receive the coroner's report, which won't be available for at least six weeks.

What role, if any, alcohol consumption may have played in Miller's death will be determined by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, according to Oxford Sgt. Jim Squance. Based on the investigation conducted, Oxford police have no reason to believe that there was any foul play or criminal activity associated with this incident, according to Squance.

Squance said there may have been a medical condition that contributed to the fall.

Miami spokeswoman Claire Wagner said Pi Kappa Phi remains on summary suspension of activities during the investigation, a standard procedure after such an accident. Miami's spring semester ended May 9.

Miller, a 2006 Bellbrook High School graduate, was majoring in finance and minoring in entrepreneurship at Miami.
