After Prom successful due to many volunteers
I just finished a long, exhausting weekend volunteering at the West After Prom. We worked for hours on Friday setting up the diner, hours on Saturday finishing up our rooms and displays and through the night until Sunday morning serving pizza and pop. That was just the boys and girls basketball area. Every team that coordinated an area was more impressive than the next. I think almost all sports groups, teams and clubs at West were represented in a different area throughout the school. So many volunteers put together a truly awesome evening for the students at West. It will probably take me a while to regroup from this weekend, but what I gained from the evening is unforgettable.
Extras
The way everything came together was unbelievable — from the behind-the-scenes workers in the kitchen all night, to the parents and community members who worked games, served food, manned inflatables, checked kids in and cleaned up at 5:30 a.m. to pull off the evening. The countless hours Terri, Gigi, Colleen and so many others put in to plan the evening did not go unnoticed.
What I definitely did notice was how truly thankful and polite all the students were. I can't say I handed out one can of pop or slice of pizza without a thank you. The kids were well behaved, appreciative and made this mom proud to be a part of Lakota West. I hope many more parents try to get involved in this event in the future.
