"He's been consistent. He went 6-2 again and he went for 6-4. He's right there, on a good day I'm sure he'll get that," Monroe boys track coach Jason Krause said. "He's been jumping really well. I know that he'll probably contend for a league championship in the high jump and I look for him to get out of districts this year."

Senior Jared Ferguson finished in a six-way tie for third place in the high jump with a mark of 5-4.

In the running events, sophomore Ben Leahy led the way for Monroe with a second place finish in the 400 meter dash. Leahy's time of 53.9 was 1.4 seconds behind first place Alex Trent of Madison.

"Ben continues to do well in the 400. His times are down to the 52's. We're still waiting to get a good day to see if we can get down to the 51's," Krause said. "The school record is 51.4 and I know he's got his sights set on that. He's another one that's got a shot to run in the league there and hopefully do well at districts."

As a team, the Hornets finished eighth with a score of 23.16 points.

Next up for Monroe is the Southwestern Buckeye League meet, which will take place today and Saturday at Eaton.

"The competition's good. There's a strong Dixie team, they've been real strong in track the last couple years they won the league title last year," Krause said. "With a full squad I thought our chances were real good to battle for that. We've lost a few guys here and there along the way but the guys that have stuck with us are working hard and I think they will do well."

On the girls side, sophomore Lindsay Bellaw led the way for Monroe with a fourth place finish in the pole vault. Bellaw finished with a mark of 8-6, six inches lower than the top three finishers. Sophomore Rachel Williams finished sixth in the discus throw with a mark of 82-9.
