Charity motorcycle ride set to roll on Saturday

Rev your engines with over 600 bikes for the fourth annual Thundering Hearts Motorcycle Ride, beginning at noon on Saturday, May 17 at the American Legion Post 450 in Milford. The ride will feature a scenic 80 mile route to Camp Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville, Ohio where riders will meet with patients and families from The Heart Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Following refreshments and socializing, riders will return to Post 450 for the after party, which includes food, prizes, vendors and live music.

In addition to being a premier, fully police-escorted riding experience, Thundering Hearts provides bikers with the unique opportunity to meet and connect with the ride's beneficiaries – children of all ages who have acquired or congenital heart disease and are being treated at Cincinnati Children's.

Special guests include the "Team Lachey" Choir, Grand Marshall Gary Burbank and Blumanchu, a band garnering local attention after their appearances at The Cincinnati Blues Festival and the Winter Blues Fest.

The Heart Center at Cincinnati Children's treats over 10,000 children each year that have acquired or congenital heart defects. All proceeds from the ride are directed to underwriting Camp Joyful Hearts and the Heart Center Family Retreat Weekend.

Help make some noise and touch a child's heart by participating in the Thundering Hearts Motorcycle Ride. Registration is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost to participate is $20 per bike plus $5 per passenger. To register, call (513) 636-2157.

Mysterious mammal munches memorial maples

A $50 reward in Boathouse Gift Certificates will be awarded to the first visitor age 12 and under who takes and presents a photo catching the vandal who has been eating the trees and other features around the lake at Voice of America Park.

"During the last several weeks something has been busy damaging trees and has been attempting to take control of the water level of the lake at Voice of America Park in West Chester Twp.," reports Chief of Operations, Jason Boerger. "Whatever it is, it's been chewing up the caps on the lake overflow device as well as munching the trunks of several trees planted close to the lake."

Could this be an elusive beaver or some other type of animal? Children age 12 and under are encouraged to bring your camera, walk the paved path around the 35-acre lake at Voice of America Park and help catch the vandal in the act. The contest will remain open through Oct. 1 or until someone catches the perpetrator on film. Bring your picture to the Boathouse retail center.

The park is located at 7850 VOA Park Dr. in West Chester Twp. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. until dusk. MetroParks motor vehicle permits are required and can be purchased at the park for $2/daily, $5/annual windshield sticker, or $10/annual hangtag. For more information, contact MetroParks of Butler County Administrative Headquarters at (513) 867-5835 or VOA Park at (513) 755-4402.
