Adena Elementary

Right to Read Week continues through Friday, May 9. Adena Elementary Media Center Specialist Cheryl Vansickle and the Reading Committee coordinated activities for the entire school. The week will end with a special tradition as students and staff head outside with a beach towel on Friday to read and enjoy a cupcake from 2:30 to 2:50 p.m.

Hopewell Junior

Academic achievers: Hopewell Junior Academic Awards to be held at 7:30 p.m. today, May 8, at Lakota East High School Gymnasium. The school will be honoring 295 students who have obtained a 3.5 or higher GPA.

FCCLA stars: Family, Career and Community Leaders of America students competed recently in the state STAR Competition in Columbus with excellent results.

Victoria Shea received a gold medal for her project and she was the top scorer in the State of Ohio. Victoria will be representing Hopewell and Ohio in July when she competes in Orlando, Fla., at the National FCCLA Leadership Convention.

Kaitlyn Strunk earned a silver medal for her career investigation project. Gold medal winners Katie Tuznik and Melissa Gomez won for their illustrated talk on childhood obesity. Anthony Sciutto and Mitch Noufer teamed up to earn a gold medal for their applied technology project. Alex Green competed in the interpersonal communications category and also earned gold.

Lakota East

Smooth Saturday sounds and sausage: Dean Miuccio from Warm 98 will emcee Hot Jazz 'n' Cakes from 8 a.m. to noon in the cafeteria. Cost is $5 for all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage and beverages. Cool Jazz will be provided by the Lakota East, Lakota Freshman School and Junior High Jazz bands. There will be raffles and shopping at the Main Street Marketplace. Dust off your instruments and join in on the open jam session at 11:30 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the Lakota East Band Program and the Jeff Durham Scholarship Fund.

McDonough as assistant treasurer: The Lakota Board of Education is pleased to announce Rebecca McDonough as the Assistant treasurer for the Lakota Local School District effective April 15. McDonough previously served as an accountant in the Treasurer's Office and has held this position since September 2002. She has previous Ohio school treasurer experience in Fairfield City, Princeton City and Winton Woods City school districts. McDonough is a graduate of Wilmington College with a bachelors of arts in business administration.

McDonough and her family reside within the Lakota School District.

Her salary for 2008-09 will be $77,500.

Freshman School associate principals announced: Associate principal assignments for the 2008-09 school year at Lakota East and Lakota West Freshman campuses have been announced. Suzanna Davis has been appointed associate principal at the Lakota East Freshman campus. Jeff Kloppenburg will serve as assistant principal. At the Lakota West campus, Shelley Hilderbrand has been appointed associate principal. Steve Jackson will serve as assistant principal.

Davis is currently the associate principal, and Jackson and Kloppenberg are assistant principals at the Lakota Freshman School. Hildebrand is currently an assistant principal at West Clermont Local School District and will begin her career at Lakota in the 2008-09 school year.
