Hamilton and Moeller agree to two-year deal in football

According to Hamilton athletic director Mike Dellapina, Hamilton and Moeller have agreed to a two-year contract to play each other in Week 2 of the 2009 and 2010 seasons. The Crusaders will visit Virgil Schwarm Stadium next year, and Big Blue will be the visiting team in 2010.

As for the other non-league opponents, HHS is in the middle of a four-year contract with the new consolidated Springfield High that will see the teams face each other in Week 1 each year through the 2010 season.

Dellapina said negotiations are ongoing with Taft regarding an extension to the current two-year deal with the Senators that will end with this year’s game in Week 3.

Hamilton’s Jarrett commits to Ball State

Just received the following news from reporter Jay Morrison.

Hamilton High School senior Donovan Jarrett will play college football at Ball State.

Jarrett, a 6-foot-3, 302-pound defensive lineman, recently gave a verbal commitment to the Ball State Cardinals, according to HHS coach Jim Place.

Place said most of the MAC schools were interested in Jarrett.

Are you ready for some football?

The first day of high school football practice is Thursday, July 31.

Most teams will be on the field early for the start of two-a-day practice sessions.

Check back for coverage and photos from the first day of practice at Hamilton, Middletown and many other schools.

Middies Hunter commits to Tennessee

Middletown High School senior Deejay Hunter had a list of schools he was going to visit throughout the month of July.

He’ll have to cancel several trips.

On Tuesday, July 9, Hunter gave a verbal committment to continue his football career for the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

Hunter is a standout cornerback/safety/kick returner for the Middies.

Middies, Lakota West in Herbstreit

Received an e-mail this morning from the folks at the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series IV.

After several changes, the schedule for the prep football showcase is finally set.

Lakota West and Middletown are both partcipating in the two-day event.

The Middies will face Warren Central (Ind.) at 2 p.m., Aug. 30, at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Firebirds play in the event’s final game — at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 vs. St. Rita (Ill.) at PBS.

The Challenge features games in Canton and Cincinnati and at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas over Labor Day Weekend.

STATE TRACK & FIELD MEET COMPLETED; One state champ

The 101st boys and 34th girls annual state track and field meet has just completed.

The girls team champion was Cleveland Heights Beaumont with 62 points. The boys champion was Cleveland Heights with 44 points, just nipping LaSalle which had 41.

The Middletown girls finished 11th with 14 points.

Senior Dierra Riley placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 12.32 seconds, as did the 400 relay team of Latia McKellar, Ayeshia Kimbrough, Chaniqua Corinealdi and Riley (48.33 seconds). The girls 800 relay team was sixth in 1:41.58.

The biggest news from our general area is that Mason freshman Zach Wills became the first boy in school history to win a state track championship. He won the 3,200 run in 9:15.34.

Word aroud Jesse owens Memorial Stadium was that he was the first freshman ever to win the two-mile race at state, but that is unconfirmed.

We mentioned Middie sophomore Fabia McDonald’s sixth-place finish in the high jump and Mason senior Lindsey Ossim’s fourth-place finish in the discus earlier.

Other area placers in Division I were:

Lebanon’s Bekah Bonny, fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.74)

Lakota West’s 800 relay team of Rashod McClendon, Bakari Bussey, D.J. Brown and Dwight Phillips in fourth place (1:27.51)

Springboro’s Carly Hamilton, second in the 1,600 run (4:57.2)

Lakota West’s 400 relay team (same foursome as 800) in fifth place (42.32)

Lebanon’s 400 relay team of Joe MacCutcheon, Trey Bonny, Logan Norris and Chase Cochran in eighth place (42.48)

Mason’s Rachel Harley, sixth in the 300 hurdles (44.73)

Mason’s girls 1,600 relay team of Chelsea Vanhook, Molly Culbertson, Harley and Rachel Weber in seventh place with the school’s second-fastest time ever (3:55.28)
